The elegance of a seamless rendered bathroom finish

There’s something elegant and timeless about a seamless bathroom that tiles simply can’t achieve.

Using traditional lime plaster in this bathroom and ensuite in Manly NSW gives the space a graceful, contemporary look that evokes a sense of calm and ease.

The owners of the multi-million-dollar apartment sought a low maintenance, natural look with an obvious patina, reminiscent of tan leather. Based on the brief, three finish samples were initially supplied, with lighter and darker colour variations and differing intensities of patina.

 A highly reflective Tadelakt-like finish

The final Tadelakt-like look was achieved using Rockcote Marrakesh applied with a trowel to the walls, shower walls and window sill. The walls were hand polished and then sealed for additional protection. Meticulous attention was paid to waterproofing the shower prior to and after application of the plaster.

The sandy colour and stunning lustre finish brings together beach and Japanese themes while the reflective surface makes the light-filled spaces feel expansive. Frosted glass separates the two adjoining rooms.

Stainless steel tapware, light oak timber cabinetry, a Japanese-inspired colonial bar window and cork flooring complete the look.

Property owner, David Ansley was so impressed with the final product that he wrote a review on my Google business page.

“Prior to starting, we discussed the colours we were aiming for. Chris then went away and provided three large sample boards for review which was invaluable. Chris has done a fabulous job with the complex process….arriving on site at 6am and working with the product until 10pm at night.

We absolutely love the finish and Chris has totally achieved the result we were after of a seamless bathroom with easy maintenance.

We confirm that the product needs to be applied by someone who is trained and has the passion and drive to achieve the best result. Thank you Chris!”

Working with traditional lime plasters

David Ansley’s comments reflect the importance of traditional lime plasters being applied by an artisan trained in their application. I’ve undertaken extensive training in these plaster finishes and am passionate about crafting something uniquely beautiful for every client.

Lime plasters such as Marrakesh are an ideal seamless, grout-free alternative to tiles for bathrooms, powder rooms and ensuites. Their ability to be shaped by hand means it is possible to create softer effects that are not achievable with tiles.

If you’re looking for something different for a new bathroom or renovation, please get in touch. I would love to create a timeless piece of art for your project.
